<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Optical design is the process of designing and developing optical systems. In this process, an optical engineer considers many physical factors. These include spectral distribution of light, photometry, colorimetry, optical properties of materials, spectral response of illuminated bodies and geometry of components. An engineer also considers constraints and objectives related to the intended use.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Optical design is a multidisciplinary subject that requires a thorough knowledge of both mathematics and physics, as well as a great deal of experience. It also requires a good ability to understand the needs of the application for which the system is intended.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The design process begins with the determination of the optical performance to be achieved according to the intended use. These depend on the type of system considered and the applications, whether it is lighting, imaging, or display. Depending on the systems, we will therefore specify details including illumination, luminance, uniformity, contrast, color temperature, focal length, field of vision, spot dimension and spatial frequency.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Subsequently, the optical engineer will endeavor to imagine and evaluate optical systems to meet the objectives set. For this, they will perform sizing calculations, numerically model the solutions envisaged and simulate their performance using appropriate tools. This operation can be repeated as many times as necessary until they get an optical system capable of meeting the fixed performance requirements.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At the end of this work, they provide details of the various optical components created, integrating all the mechanical interfaces, taking into account the tolerances linked to manufacturing and assembly. Finally, the experts will prototype and test the system using appropriate optical measurement equipment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Matthieu VERSTRAETE&nbsp;has joined PISEO&nbsp;as Innovation Leader and Electronics and software Architect.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">He holds an Msc in Electronics and worked during +20 years at Philips in which he a.o. contributed to the design of digital TV set top boxes, DVD recorders’ optical readers and specifications of the LED drivers global portfolio. More recently he acted as global system architect for outdoor LED luminaires.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With his strong background he will bring a supplementary cornerstone to enable PISEO’s team to create innovative illumination, detection and imaging systems for our customers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Les LED UV ont atteint des performances qui permettent maintenant d&#8217;envisager des solutions de désinfection utilisant cette technologie en remplacement des sources à décharges.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pour tirer le meilleur parti des sources LED UV, il est néanmoins nécessaire de bien définir les objectifs de performance attendus au niveau de l&#8217;application (irradiance, uniformité, distribution spectrale) et de savoir les intégrer de manière appropriée en tenant compte des interactions entre le rayonnement UV et les micro-organismes ou des conditions de fonctionnement particulières des LEDs UV.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Les systèmes de vision industrielle sont de plus en plus répandus et l’on trouve aisément dans le commerce des caméras et des objectifs prêts à l’emploi. Néanmoins, les logiciels de traitement des images capturées, même très élaborés, ne parviennent pas toujours à discriminer suffisamment les scènes en raison d’un éclairement mal adapté. Grâce à l’utilisation d’un illuminateur correctement conçu et réalisé, il est possible de compenser les problèmes de vignettage des objectifs, de colorimétrie et d’uniformité de scène…</p>

Elle détient un diplôme d&#8217;Ingénieur en Optique, Photonique et Vision Industrielle, ainsi qu&#8217;un Master de recherche en micro et nano structuration photonique obtenus à Telecom Saint-Etienne.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Matthias JOUFFRIEAU</strong>&nbsp;est en charge d&#8217;études optiques et thermiques. Il est titulaire d&#8217;un BTS en optique-photonique et a travaillé 15 ans dans un grand groupe leader mondial de l&#8217;éclairage, où il a participé à de nombreux projets d&#8217;éclairage à base de LED, alliant caractérisation de composants, conception optique et prototypage de systèmes d&#8217;éclairage.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Les outils de calculs et de simulations optiques sont, avec le laboratoire d’essais, les moyens clés de l’activité d’études/conseils de PISEO. Véritables outils de prototypage virtuel, ils nous permettent de garantir rapidité et précision lors des phases de conception de systèmes optiques innovants et de réaliser des analyses poussées qui ne peuvent pas être effectuées en laboratoire.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>&gt; 2 licences ZEMAX OpticStudio 19.4, dont une Premium</strong></p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Le logiciel ZEMAX permet de mener les études de conception de systèmes optiques en imagerie et illumination, du dimensionnement à la réalisation. Il est particulièrement adapté pour la construction de modèles complets de systèmes d’imagerie en permettant la prise en compte des scénarios d’utilisation, y compris les contraintes environnementales, basées sur des indicateurs de performance (FTM, efficacité, uniformité …).</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">LightTools est un des logiciels de référence pour la conception et la simulation de systèmes optiques d’illumination. Il permet, entre autres, de modéliser et d’optimiser des composants optiques complexes en associant, par exemple, des motifs à des surfaces free-form pour les applications de rétro-éclairage.</p>
