Haas gave a talk at the TEDGlobal conference that introduced LiFi communication, whose recording now has 2.7 million views. In it, Haas noted that the optical spectrum is more than three orders of magnitude wider than the entire radio spectrum used for existing wireless communications. \u2018People in the meantime have always asked, \u201cOkay, if there\u2019s so much resource, why don\u2019t we see these very high data rates?\u201d,\u2019 Haas, who is now at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, told Electro Optics. \u2018That is primarily down to the availability of devices.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One critical advance is that LiFi developers have recently added lasers rather than just LEDs to their products. \u2018The modulation speed of LEDs is limited by the nature of the semiconductor device,\u2019 explained Jo\u00ebl THOME, CEO of the V\u00e9nissieux, France-based photonic innovation centre Piseo. Piseo is also a partner of France-based semiconductor market analysis company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yole.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yole D\u00e9veloppement<\/a>.
